Silo Kids At Hunt Hill Farm Trust in Litchfield CT Review

Tucked away in the hills of Litchfield county, is The Silo. It’s a little known, kid friendly destination. The Silo Kids is a rustic barn, turned into a cooking school. It hosts famous chefs for corporate events, and adult cooking classes. There are cooking classes for teenagers. But, especially for kids, there are music programs, summer camps, girl scout and boy scout activities, cooking classes for kids, gingerbread house classes for parents and children to do together, cupcake and cookie decorating classes, custom birthday parties – including learning to make pizza – as a theme, a visit from Santa, and Christmas gingerbread cookies to decorate !

The barn is not your ordinary stable. This is a cozy, rustic, open setting, with tables, and a gourmet kitchen. The back of the barn houses a beautiful gift shop, with unique and rustic items for purchase. Head downstairs to fill your basket with unique kitchen utensils and items for the kitchen.

If it’s a private event location, you are looking for. The barn will be transformed to your theme! From wedding and baby showers, to corporate Holiday parties, and custom cooking classes, you won’t be disappointed.

Mom’s Review:
I took my oldest daughter to the gingerbread house event. We had a wonderful time. The staff is amazing with kids. A memory we will have forever. It is definitely a fun thing to do with your kids in CT.

Positives:
Friendly Staff
Everything is planned out and ready to go for your event
It’s a great parent and child opportunity for quality time
I can only imagine the wonderful time kids would have at a custom birthday party!

Negatives:
The only thing we wished we had was a place to grab something to eat. But, we were having so much fun, and drinks were provided. That helped tide us over.

Kid’s Review: What do the kids think of this place?
Abi’s Rating:  Abi gives this place a #10 I wish it wasn’t over! (The 10 foot long table full of candy may have tipped the scales in The Silo’s favor 🙂 ) Actually, I think it would be a #10 regardless.

Our Experience:
We wanted to touch base with some of our old friends, and I thought a cooking class would be a fun way to spend time together. But, I hadn’t heard of a class involving parents and children. So, after the kids were tucked into bed, the search was on.  It took me a couple of hours, and a few emails, but I found one!

Luckily this was in October, and a few gingerbread classes were still available. So, I signed us up. This would be a great opportunity to spend some time with friends, and my oldest daughter, and I could check it out for all of you!

I wasn’t disappointed. As we walked into the barn entrance, a 10 foot long table was displayed with bowls of candy! Nancy, the person in charge of the class, was busy putting out the last few items for the class. As soon as everyone arrived, we headed to an adjoining room to roll out our gingerbread dough! A quick lesson, and we were off. Nancy took our finished gingerbread shapes, and popped them in the oven to bake. While we waited, we started working on our yards for the houses. Our house pieces were brought to the table, and assembled with some magical meringue. That stuff is strong! Then we finished our final decorations, did some shopping, and took our wonderful house home to display. Now, that’s good stuff!

I just wish there were more gingerbread slots available for you to try out! I wanted to check it out, before I posted this as a Kid Friendly Thing To Do. Please, keep it in mind for next holiday season!

There are other holiday opportunities waiting. See the link below to check them out. 🙂
